P0095 Code - Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit

What Does P0095 Mean?

The intake air temperature sensor transmits a signal correlating to the density of the air coming through the intake to the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM then uses this signal to adjust injector pulse widths based on the air density signal in order to maintain a proper stoichiometric ratio.
The P0095 code indicates that the ECM has detected a voltage from the intake air temperature sensor that is outside the normal range of acceptance set by the manufacturer.

What are the common causes of P0095 ?

The most common cause of this code is an IAT sensor that has been left unplugged after replacing the air filter. Other possible causes are a faulty IAT sensor (usually near the air filter housing), faulty electrical wiring or connectors, a faulty PCM.

What are the symptoms of P0095 ?

Aside from the MIL, and depending on failure mode, you may note poor engine performance, particularly on acceleration, though you may not notice anything while cruising or at low speeds. Some ECMs may internally substitute a certain temperature reading in its calculations, which may enable the vehicle to run, although you may still experience rough idle, hesitation on acceleration, perhaps a random misfire.

How do you troubleshoot P0095 ?

The original multi-displacement system turned off opposite pairs of cylinders, allowing the engine to have three different configurations and displacements. P0095 code had an elaborate diagnostics procedure, including showing engine trouble codes on the air conditionning display. However, the system was troublesome, misunderstood by customers, and a rash of unpredictable failures led to the technology being quickly retired.
