    What Does P0123 Mean?

The Throttle Position Sensor/Switch is located on the Throttle Body of the Intake Manifold and the Pedal Position Sensor/Switch is part of the Accelerator Pedal assembly. These sensors provide precise input from the driver's foot in terms of how MUCH power is needed from the engine and, how URGENTLY power is needed. As the Throttle Position Sensor is rotated from its base resting position to full acceleration, typically, it sends an increasing voltage signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This increasing or decreasing voltage signal is used by the PCM to manage the Air Fuel Ratio and Spark Timing of the engine as well as other Emissions System Components.

What are the common causes of P0123 ?

To sum things up, the common causes for code P0123 are as follows:
    • TPS sensor is faulty
    • TPS circuit is open or shorted
    • The PCM is faulty

What are the symptoms of P0123 ?

Symptoms consistent with a faulty throttle position sensor include: hesitation or stumbling upon acceleration, unstable idle, and an illuminated check engine light. In some cases, a no-start condition may even result.

    How to fix P0123 ?

With the valve disconnected, the red voltmeter lead should be attached to the IMRC valve power wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to ground. It should be pretty close to battery voltage (12 volts). If not, then this is the circuit that has the problem. If the engine displays a miss and there wasn't a code, determine which cylinder is misfiring. If the exhaust manifold is visible, spay or pour a small amount of water on each cylinder exhaust port. Water will evaporate immediately on good cylinders and slowly on the missing cylinder. If this can't be accomplished pull the plugs and check the condition.
