    What Does P0124 Mean?

    P0124 is the generic OBD-II code that indicates the TPS sensor circuit A output voltage goes below or above the sensor's expected range; the signal is erratic and fails intermittently.

    What are the common causes of P0124 ?

    Possible causes of this code include a loose TPS electrical connector, faulty TPS circuit wiring, faulty or misadjusted TPS, faulty throttle body, or a faulty PCM. PCM failures are rare.

    What are the symptoms of P0124 ?

    Possible symptoms can include black smoke at startup, poor acceleration, a no start condition, misfire at idle, start and stall, and service engine lamp illumination.

    How do you troubleshoot P0124 ?

    The original multi-displacement system turned off opposite pairs of cylinders, allowing the engine to have three different configurations and displacements. P0124 code had an elaborate diagnostics procedure, including showing engine trouble codes on the air conditionning display. However, the system was troublesome, misunderstood by customers, and a rash of unpredictable failures led to the technology being quickly retired.
