    What Does P0137 Mean?

P0137 is the OBD-II generic code indicating the O2 sensor for bank 1 sensor 2 is failing to increase the voltage output above .21 volts indicating excessive oxygen in the exhaust.
This code occurs when the engine control module (ECM) sees the voltage of the O2 sensor for bank 1 sensor 2 below .21 volts when the ECM has commanded the fuel to a targeted rich condition on that bank of the engine.

What are the common causes of P0137 ?
    • Faulty IMRC actuator relay (if equipped)
    • A large air leak at or near the number one oxygen sensor would also cause a lean mixture.
    • A plugged converter will cause of host of driveability problems as well as set this code. A severely plugged converter will result in the inability to increase rpm when under load. Look for a code such as P0421 -- catalytic converter efficiency below threshold if the converter indicating a faulty converter.
What are the symptoms of P0137 ?

It does one good to note that the HO2S have nothing at all to do with fuel trim and are used only to verify TWC function, though FT problems, such as those caused by fuel pressure or misfiring cylinders, could skew HO2S readings, perhaps even set TWC or HO2S DTCs, but these would not result in circuit DTCs. Most of the time, as the TWC is not critical to engine function, but simply an emissions-control device, you will not notice anything other than the MIL.

How do you troubleshoot P0137 ?

Like the all engines, the car engine system employs specially developed hydraulic lifters (known as switching roller followers) for the P0137 code intake and exhaust valves. The lifters can be collapsed by disengaging an internal locking pin. The locking pin is disengaged using solenoids to alter oil pressure fed into the lifter.
