    What Does P0139 Mean?

P0139 is the OBD-II generic code indicating that the O2 sensor for bank 1 sensor 2 failed to have a voltage drop below .2 volts for 7 seconds during a deceleration fuel cut off. This failure shows that the engine control module (ECM) has determined the sensor response is too slow.

What are the common causes of P0139 ?

Possible causes include a faulty oxygen sensor, faulty electrical connector at the oxygen sensor, faulty or shorted wiring in the oxygen sensor circuit, a blown fuse for the oxygen sensor (if applicable), low or excessive fuel pressure, a vacuum leak on the engine, excessive exhaust leaks, or a faulty PCM. PCM failure is rare.

What are the symptoms of P0139 ?

Symptoms of a P0139 diagnostic trouble code may include:
    • Faulty O2 Sensor
    • Lack of power
    • If the DPF is not cleared the ECU will revert to the "Limp Home Mode" until the situation is corrected
    • The engine oil will exhibit dilution from the ECUs attempts to increase engine temperature. Some vehicles advance the fuel injection timing slightly after top center to afterburn a small amount of fuel to increase exhaust temperatures. Some of this fuel enters the crankcase. When the ECU determines the necessity to regenerate the DPF, the service life of the oil be shortened significantly
How do you troubleshoot P0139 ?

While fuel economy was increased, acceleration was seriously compromised, and the loss of engine vacuum led to a dangerous loss of braking assist when the P0139 code system was in four-cylinder mode. In addition to these issues, while the company proposed a hydraulically controlled system that could be switched from within the car, the version they implemented had to be manually changed in the engine compartment using hand tools.
