    What Does P0145 Mean?

P0145 is the OBD-II generic code indicating that the O2 sensor for bank 1 sensor 3 fails to have a voltage drop to below .2 volts for 7 seconds during a deceleration fuel cut off. The Engine Control Module (ECM) has determined the sensor response to be too slow.

What are the common causes of P0145 ?

Possible causes include a faulty oxygen sensor, faulty electrical connector at the oxygen sensor, faulty or shorted wiring in the oxygen sensor circuit, a blown fuse for the oxygen sensor (if applicable), low or excessive fuel pressure, a vacuum leak on the engine, excessive exhaust leaks, or a faulty PCM. PCM failure is rare.

    How to fix ?

Now, clear the codes and test-drive the vehicle to see if the code is reset. Look for missing ground strap or a rusty ground where the fuel tank is grounded to the frame. Check for damage to the wiring harness connector. Oxygen sensors signal the engine management computer the amount of oxygen present in the exhaust, which is used in determining and controlling the fuel ratio.

    Process Tips

Diagnostic trouble code P0145 is not difficult to diagnose and repair. Thus, it always pays to have a qualified technician to look after your vehicle should this error code arise.

Diagnosing this code requires the engine to be in good running shape, without unmetered air entering the engine. If other codes that relates to misfiring condition, lean running or air entering the engine is present, then you must first fix those error codes before P0145.

Fortunately, P0145 is a fairly common OBD code, meaning that it applies to all makes and models of vehicles made after 1996.
