    What Does P0156 Mean?

An oxygen sensor for a one particular engine bank has delivered a voltage signal that is not within the accepted parameters, causing the PCM to store a trouble code and possibly illuminate the service engine soon light. Bank 2 typically denotes the engine bank of the engine block that does not contain the number 1 cylinder. S2 tells you that the fault is found in sensor 2, or the downstream sensor (aft of the catalytic converter/s).

What are the common causes of P0156 ?
    • Gas leaks in the exhaust
    • Air leaks in the intake
    • Defective fuel injectors
    • Broken or exposed wires
    • Voltage wires or circuits that have shorted out
    • Exhaust holes that are located near or around the oxygen sensor
    • Engine vacuum leaks
    • Oxygen sensor wires touching the exhaust
What are the symptoms of P0156 ?

Symptoms of a P0156 diagnostic trouble code may include:
    • Excessive exhaust leak
    • Hesitation upon acceleration
    • Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated
    • Diminished fuel efficiency
How do you troubleshoot P0156 ?

Repairs for this error code of course, are as easy and as straightforward as its diagnosis, which are:
    • Repair of vacuum leaks
    • Repair broken, shorted or exposed O2 sensor wires
    • Repair exhaust damage as needed
    • Replace faulty fuel injector
    • Replace the O2 sensor Bank 2 sensor 2
    • Though not really considered as a serious trouble code, P0156 can definitely increase the vehicle’s fuel consumption and can cause it to release excessive air pollutants into the air.
