    What Does P0158 Mean?

An oxygen sensor for a one particular engine bank has delivered a voltage signal that is not within the accepted parameters, causing the PCM to store a trouble code and possibly illuminate the service engine soon light. Bank 2 typically denotes the engine bank of the engine block that does not contain the number 1 cylinder. S2 tells you that the fault is found in sensor 2, or the downstream sensor (aft of the catalytic converter/s).

What are the common causes of P0158 ?

Check Engine light is the most obvious symptom for Error Code P0158, as it will not usually cause drivability issues, since it only suggests an input that measures the efficiency of the catalyst (unlike the front Oxygen sensors). However, there’s a good chance that other error codes may be present as well, such as lean condition codes or pre-O2 sensor codes, which may cause drivability issues, such as the Error Code P0143. For some cases with symptoms, the common symptoms will be:
    • Engine performance problems
    • Rough running
    • Poor idle
    • Engine dies
    • Poor fuel efficiency
    • Loss of power and misfires intermittently
    • Engine running rich (happens when the PCM tries to compensate by adding fuel for low oxygen sensor voltage reading)
What are the symptoms of P0158 ?
    • Check Engine Light will come on
    • Decreased fuel economy
    • Engine runs rough
    • Engine idles rough
    • Engine stalls
How do you troubleshoot P0158 ?

You might continue by connecting the scanner to the vehicle diagnostic connector and retrieving all stored codes and freeze frame data. Look for missing ground strap or a rusty ground where the fuel tank is grounded to the frame. Check for damage to the wiring harness connector. Replace the oxygen sensor that is downstream from the catalytic converter on the side of the engine that does not contain cylinder #1. Also, if a oxygen sensor code stating "heater circuit malfunction" the sensor has most probably failed.
