    What Does P0188 Mean?

The PCM has detected an abnormal voltage reading from the fuel temperature sensor (flex fuel sensor) or circuit. This sensor is designed to detect fuel (ethanol) contamination and provide the PCM with an accurate fuel temperature.

What are the common causes of P0188 ?
    • Low fuel pressure caused by a clogged filter, failing fuel pump, failed fuel pressure regulator or clogged or leaking injectors.
    • Low fuel pressure caused by a clogged filter, failing fuel pump, failed fuel pressure regulator or clogged or leaking injectors.
    • Faulty IMRC actuator/sensor
What are the symptoms of P0188 ?
    • Sometimes there will be no symptoms at all
    • Check Engine Light is on
    • Car has hesitation
    • Car will not start
    • Car will stutter when it is accelerating
    • Other fuel system codes stored in the power control module (PCM)
How do you troubleshoot P0188 ?

Deactivation of cylinders is achieved by releasing a synchroniser pin that normally interlocks the cam follower and rocker arms. P0188 code resolves the synchroniser pin is released using hydraulic pressure which is controlled by a dedicated solenoid.
