P0216 Code - Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction

What Does P0216 Mean?

Fuel injection timing is controlled by the PCM which calculates input data from the engine crankshaft and engine camshaft sensors. Should circuit resistance factors cause a voltage differentiation in the injection timing circuit voltage that exceed 10-percent of a predetermined manufacturer’s reference voltage, then a code is stored in the PCM and a service engine lamp will be illuminated.

What are the common causes of P0216 ?

• A faulty camshaft position sensor
• A faulty crankshaft position sensor

How do you troubleshoot P0216 ?

With the valve disconnected, the red voltmeter lead should be attached to the IMRC valve power wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to ground. Use the DVOM to test resistance and continuity on all system circuits if actuator and sensor resistance levels are in compliance with manufacturer's specifications.
