P0218 Code - Transmission Over Temperature Condition

What Does P0218 Mean?

P0218 indicates that the PCM has detected a transmission temperature that is over a predetermined limit. When this occurs, a code is stored and a malfunction indicator illuminated. Some vehicles will also enter “limp-in” mode.

How do you troubleshoot P0218 ?

Like the all engines, the car engine system employs specially developed hydraulic lifters (known as switching roller followers) for the P0218 code intake and exhaust valves. The lifters can be collapsed by disengaging an internal locking pin. The locking pin is disengaged using solenoids to alter oil pressure fed into the lifter.
