    What Does P0226 Mean?

OBD-II Code Decreased engine performance is defined as a Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "C" Circuit

The Throttle Position Sensor/Switch is located on the Throttle Body of the Intake Manifold and the Pedal Position Sensor/Switch is part of the Accelerator Pedal assembly. These sensors tell the engine control module (PCM) how fast the driver wants to go and how quickly it needs to get up to speed. When the PCM detects a problem with this sensor or the circuit for the sensor, it will set code P0226.The PCM may also limit the speed of the vehicle to 20 miles per hour or less ("Limp home mode") to protect the engine and the driver due to the control module's inability to accurately detect the engine performance being requested.

What are the common causes of P0226 ?

The most common causes of code P0226 could include the following-
    • Damaged, short circuited, or corroded wiring and connectors
    • Defective TPS or pedal sensors
    • Mal-adjusted TPS sensors
    • Mechanical wear in the TPS sensor and/or throttle body
    • Carbon deposits in the throttle body that impede the movement of the throttle plate
    • While PCM failures do happen, it is a rare event and the fault must be sought elsewhere before any controller is replaced
How do you troubleshoot P0226 ?
    • Repairing or replacing defective connectors or wiring to the sensor if they are corroded, or have connector damage
    • Repairing cuts or shorts in the wiring to the sensor
    • Replacing the throttle body control assembly, if defective
    • Replacing or reprogramming the ECM
