P0240 Code - Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Sensor 'B' Circuit Range/Performance

What Does P0240 Mean?

The PCM has detected an abnormal reading in the turbocharger boost sensor “B” circuit. Circuit B represents a particular boost sensor (where multiple sensors are used in conjunction). There is no set rule for positioning of boost sensors. Check manufacturer’s specifications for specific boost sensor locations.

What are the common causes of P0240 ?

• The turbo boost pressure sensor B does not correlate the same voltage input to the ECM with the MAP or BARO sensors at engine idle or when the key is on and the engine is off.
• The turbo boost pressure sensor B is contaminated or clogged with debris or carbon deposits.
• The turbo boost pressure sensor B is slow to respond to changing pressure from deterioration with age.

How do you troubleshoot P0240 ?

Look for missing ground strap or a rusty ground where the fuel tank is grounded to the frame. Check for damage to the wiring harness connector. It should be pretty close to battery voltage (12 volts). If not, then this is the circuit that has the problem.
