    What Does P0309 Mean?

Is the fuel pump sometimes not priming when you turn the key to ON(II)? Start by measuring the fuel pressure and checking whether you have bright white-bluish spark at all four plugs. The mechanical timing is also something that you should check, as we mentioned above. When you see P0309 engine fault code on your engine code reader this description will help you.

What are the common causes of P0309 ?

When you encounter a single cylinder misfire, the causes of systemic misfires such as: fuel pumps, timing problems, EGR valve leaks, or crankshaft position sensors are less likely. Individual spark plugs, fuel injectors and valves should be carefully examined for the cylinder. For companion cylinders, the cylinder noted by the PCM may test fine. Be sure to check its companion in the firing sequence. For a P0309 code, the causes could be:
    • Cylinder #9 Spark Plug
    • Cylinder #9 Coil
    • Cylinder #9 Wiring
    • Cylinder #9 Fuel Injector
TIP: Check for a technical service bulletin. There could be a known repair for a single cylinder code. Sometimes the PCM errors.

How do you troubleshoot P0309 ?

The following are some of the potential fixes that mechanics will attempt when trying to deal with the misfired cylinder number 9.
    • Reset the code and see if it comes back
    • If the code does come back, then the mechanic will want to check all the wiring in the connectors that lead to the cylinder, as well as the spark plugs
    • Replace the spark plugs, spark plug wires, coils, and rotor, as well as the distributor cap
    • In some instances, the catalytic converter might be bad and may need to be replaced
