    What Does P0345 Mean?

OBD-II Code P0345 is defined as a Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit

The Camshaft Position Sensor measures the exact rotational position of the camshaft. This provides a critical data signal used by the engine control module (PCM) to control the fuel injectors and ignition coils. When the PCM detects an irregular signal or no signal, it will set code P0345.

What are the common causes of P0345 ?

A number of potential causes exist for the P0345 code. They include the following:
    • Contamination of the sensor by engine oil or transmission fluid
    • Broken teeth
    • Wiring damage
    • Corroded or loose connections
    • Failed camshaft position sensor A (usually due to fluid contamination)
    • Failed crankshaft position sensor
    • Failed PCM (rare)

How do you troubleshoot P0345 ?

With the valve disconnected, the red voltmeter lead should be attached to the IMRC valve power wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to ground. It should be pretty close to battery voltage (12 volts). If not, then this is the circuit that has the problem.

    Process Tips

Diagnostic trouble code P0345 is not difficult to diagnose and repair. Thus, it always pays to have a qualified technician to look after your vehicle should this error code arise.

Diagnosing this code requires the engine to be in good running shape, without unmetered air entering the engine. If other codes that relates to misfiring condition, lean running or air entering the engine is present, then you must first fix those error codes before P0345.

Fortunately, P0345 is a fairly common OBD code, meaning that it applies to all makes and models of vehicles made after 1996.
