P0359 Code - Ignition Coil 9 Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction

What Does P0359 Mean?

A P0359 code means that there is a problem with one of the ignition coils on the vehicle’s engine. Many modern vehicles have individual ignition coils per cylinder. They’re mounted above or close to the spark plug, and the car’s computer is responsible for controlling each coil. The computer sends and on or off signal to operate the coils and create the spark needed to ignite fuel vapor.

What are the common causes of P0359 ?

The most likely causes of this code are a faulty ignition coil, shorted or open wiring in the ignition coil driver circuit from the PCM, a faulty or corroded connector for the ignition coil, or a faulty PCM. PCM failure is rare.



How do you troubleshoot P0359 ?

If the scan tool has that capability, and the scan tool can operate the IMRC valves, then the problem is either resolved and a simple code clearing is all that's left or a new PCM would be called for. With the valve disconnected, the red voltmeter lead should be attached to the IMRC valve power wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to ground.
