    What Does P0366 Mean?

OBD-II Code P0366 is defined as a Camshaft Position Sensor "B" Circuit Range/Performance
The Camshaft Position Sensor measures the exact rotational position of the camshaft. This provides a critical data signal used by the engine control module (PCM) to control the fuel injectors and ignition coils. When the PCM detects an irregular signal or no signal, it will set code P0366.

What are the common causes of P0366 ?

The most common cause of this code is related to oil (or other engine fluids) that have leaked onto sensors, wiring, or electrical connectors. This typically causes grounded, broken, or shorted wiring, along with loose or shorted electrical connectors. In some cases fluid contamination has also caused camshaft sensors to go bad. Some vehicles will store a camshaft position sensor circuit code if the crankshaft sensor goes bad. If one or the other is found to be faulty; it is recommended that camshaft and crankshaft sensors be replaced as a set. PCM failure is also possible but rarely occurs.

How do you troubleshoot P0366 ?

There are many ways that a technician can address a P0366 code detection. They include:
    • Repair oil leaks or engine fluid leaks, and replace any electrical components damaged by the leak
    • Replace faulty crankshaft sensor
    • Replace or repair shorted or open wiring
    • Replace damaged electrical connectors
    • Replace faulty starter motor
    • Replace or repair faulty starting system circuit
    • Charge or replace dead or weakened battery
    • Replace or repair open or shorted camshaft position sensor harness
After each repair is attempted, the code should be cleared from the PCM and the system should be retested. This procedure helps pinpoint the exact cause of the code, and ensures that the system has been properly repaired.
