    What Does P0379 Mean?

OBD-II Code Decreased engine performance is defined as a Timing Reference High Resolution Signal "B" no Pulses

The engine control module (PCM) sends a duplicate signal of the crankshaft position sensor (CKP) to the Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM). If the signal to the FICM becomes corrupt, the PCM will set code P0379.

What are the common causes of P0379 ?

Professional technicians report that the most common causes of this type of code include defective camshaft, crankshaft, and distributor position sensors. Following closely behind is mechanical distributor failure, which is common in high-mileage rear-wheel drive domestic applications. Faulty, damaged, or corroded wiring and electrical connectors are also contributed with failures of a similar nature. PCM failure is possible but rarely occurs.

How do you troubleshoot P0379 ?

The valves of each cylinder are kept closed using a pair of arms that replace the conventional engine's roller-type rocker arm. P0379 code one of these arms follows the cam profile while the second arm connects to the valves. During normal engine operation the two arms are joined by a locking pin.
