What are the common causes of P0383 ?

Faulty glow plugs are most commonly to blame for the P0383 code. However, there could be quite a few other causes, including:
    • Faulty glow plug relay
    • Bad glow plug module or timer
    • Open or shorted glow plug wiring harness
    • Blown fuses (which indicate an underlying issue elsewhere)
    • Loose, corroded, or shorted glow plug circuit electrical connectors
    • Loose, shorted, or open wiring in the glow plug heater circuit

How do you troubleshoot P0383 ?

Once located, visually inspect the connectors and wiring. Look for rubbing, scraping, bare wires, worn spots or melted plastic connectors. With the valve disconnected, the red voltmeter lead should be attached to the IMRC valve power wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to ground. Look at the plug wires to make sure they are not burnt or laying on the exhaust.
