What Does P0384 Mean?

The glow plug system provides the heat that the engine needs to begin combustion in cold temperatures. Glow plugs heat before, during, and after cranking, and the temperature and voltage of the glow plugs is monitored by the ECM. If the voltage reading detected by the ECM is more than 10% higher than the reading recommended by the manufacturer, the PCM will store the P0384 code.

What are the common causes of P0384 ?

Common causes of this code may include (but are not limited to) faulty glow plugs, a faulty glow plug relay, a bad glow plug timer or module, shorted or open wiring in the glow plug heater circuit, loose or corroded electrical connectors in the glow plug circuit. Blown fuses are also a common problem but there is usually an underlying problem that caused a fuse to blow. Repair codes in the order that they appear on the code reader or scanner. Freeze frame data can also be helpful in diagnosing this condition.

How do you troubleshoot P0384 ?

There are currently two main types of cylinder deactivation used today, depending on the type of engine. P0384 code for the pushrod design which uses solenoids to alter the oil pressure delivered to the lifters. In their collapsed state, the lifters are unable to elevate their companion pushrods under the valve rocker arms, resulting in valves that cannot be actuated and remain closed.
