P0454 Code - Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Intermittent

What Does P0454 Mean?

The Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) control system pressure sensor detects pressure in the purge line. The sensor output voltage to the Engine Control Module (ECM) increases as pressure increases. The EVAP control system pressure sensor is not used to control the engine system. It is used only for on board diagnosis.

What are the common causes of P0454 ?

• An air leak forward of the DPF will change the sensor readings resulting in the code
• Rusty exhaust systems, cracked exhaust manifolds or damaged or missing gaskets or donuts will cause air leaks.
• Faulty IMRC actuator relay (if equipped)

How do you troubleshoot P0454 ?

Once the mechanic has started to narrow down the location of the problem, they can start to make repairs. The following are some of the repairs that can be made to help fix the P0454 code:

• Replace the fuel cap.
• Replace the purge control solenoid.
• Check/replace the charcoal canister.
• Check/replace the fuel vapor hoses.
• Check/replace the vacuum.
