P0492 Code - Secondary Air Injection System Insufficient Flow Bank 2

What Does P0492 Mean?

With the P0492 code, it means that the car’s computer has detected a problem with the second bank in the secondary air injection system, which is used to help reduce emissions. Pressure and flow are read through voltage signals sent to the computer, and any variations significantly outside of the automaker’s normal range will trigger this code to be set. Note that the Check Engine Light may or may not illuminate in this instance.

• A large air leak at or near the number one oxygen sensor would also cause a lean mixture.
• Faulty IMRC actuator relay (if equipped)
• An air leak forward of the DPF will change the sensor readings resulting in the code

How do you troubleshoot P0492 ?

There are currently two main types of cylinder deactivation used today, depending on the type of engine. P0492 code for the pushrod design which uses solenoids to alter the oil pressure delivered to the lifters. In their collapsed state, the lifters are unable to elevate their companion pushrods under the valve rocker arms, resulting in valves that cannot be actuated and remain closed.
