    What Does P0510 Mean?

The P0510 refers to a problem with the vehicle's throttle plate. In most vehicle models, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will register a code if an improper throttle plate has been reported for at least five seconds. The PCM gauges the throttle's position based on differences in voltage. If the throttle plate is improperly placed, it will pose significant issues for the engine and acceleration.

What are the common causes of P0510 ?
    • Throttle Position Switch (TPS) Adjustment
    • Faulty Throttle Position Switch (TPS)
    • Throttle Position Switch (TPS) harness open or shorted
    • Throttle Position Switch (TPS) circuit poor electrical connection

How do you troubleshoot P0510 ?

Look for missing ground strap or a rusty ground where the fuel tank is grounded to the frame. Check for damage to the wiring harness connector. If the scan tool has that capability, and the scan tool can operate the IMRC valves, then the problem is either resolved and a simple code clearing is all that's left or a new PCM would be called for.
