P0522 Code - Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Low Voltage

What Does P0522 Mean?

The PCM has detected an abnormal reading from the engine oil pressure sensor (switch). If this code is present, or if the red oil pressure warning indicator is illuminated, shut the engine off IMMEDIATELY! Catastrophic engine failure could result if this condition is not rectified at once.

What are the common causes of P0522 ?

• Rarely - faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM-programming required after replacement)
• Rough running engine due to misfiring plugs. Many engines have misfire codes to indicate the cylinder effected, such as P0307 for number 7.
• Fuel with a large percentage of sulfur will clog the DPF quickly

• Check the vehicle with a scanner and resetting the code, followed by road testing the vehicle to see if it returns
• Visually inspect the oil pressure sending unit’s wiring and connectors to check for damaged wires, loose connections, or burned spots, replacing these as necessary
• Replace the oil pressure sensor if it does not test at the correct voltage (the most common repair for P0522)
• Repair any damage caused by actual low oil pressure
