    What Does P0538 Mean?

The poor running symptoms are consistent with a MAP sensor malfunction. In addition, in some cases, a bad MAP sensor will not throw a code. Again, the ELD code likely represents a separate wiring issue. When you see P0538 engine fault code on your engine code reader this description will help you.

What are the common causes of P0538 ?

The most common cause of this code being stored is due to a faulty evaporator temperature sensor. Other causes can include the evaporator core freezing up due to a faulty expansion valve, faulty electrical connectors, damaged, shorted, or open wiring, a low freon condition, an overcharged a/c system, or a faulty climate control head.

How do you troubleshoot P0538 ?

Now, clear the codes and test-drive the vehicle to see if the code is reset. Look for missing ground strap or a rusty ground where the fuel tank is grounded to the frame. Check for damage to the wiring harness connector. Replace the oxygen sensor that is downstream from the catalytic converter on the side of the engine that does not contain cylinder #1. Also, if a oxygen sensor code stating "heater circuit malfunction" the sensor has most probably failed.
