    What Does P0539 Mean?

The PCM has detected a voltage reading from the a/c evaporator temperature sensor that does not fall within acceptable limitations.

What are the common causes of P0539 ?
    • Rarely - faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM-programming required after replacement)
    • Rough running engine due to misfiring plugs. Many engines have misfire codes to indicate the cylinder effected, such as P0307 for number 7.
    • An air leak forward of the DPF will change the sensor readings resulting in the code

How do you troubleshoot P0539 ?

Repairing a P0539 trouble code requires the mechanic to perform certain steps, including:
    • Replace any faulty or damaged wiring, connectors, or components.
    • After testing the A/C with the A/C gauges hooked up and the A/C at max and the blower on high, fill the A/C with the appropriate amount of refrigerant.
    • Replace the expansion valve if the A/C system is drawing too low of a pressure with the blower set to low.
    • Replace the evaporator temperature sensor if it is bad.
    • Replace the climate control head or A/C compressor switch if these components prove faulty after further testing.
