    What Does P0592 Mean?

In many cases, the P0592 code is caused by a failed cruise control switch. Since the switch is in the vehicle’s interior, it’s not unusual for it to have liquids spilled on it, creating an open or shorted condition.

What are the common causes of P0592 ?

The most likely cause of this code setting condition is a failed cruise control switch. Shorted or open circuitry in the cruise control buttons is common due to the presence of spilled liquids. Liquid spilled onto cruise control components has proven problematic in the past. Other causes may include shorted or open wiring, damaged or corroded connectors, and blown fuses (although a blown fuse is usually a reaction to a more severe problem).

How do you troubleshoot P0592 ?

If the engine displays a miss and there wasn't a code, determine which cylinder is misfiring. If the exhaust manifold is visible, spay or pour a small amount of water on each cylinder exhaust port. Water will evaporate immediately on good cylinders and slowly on the missing cylinder. If this can't be accomplished pull the plugs and check the condition. Check to make sure they are not burnt or corroded. If in doubt, get some Electrical Contact cleaner at any parts store if cleaning of the terminals is needed. Find out what kind of system you have and verify that voltage to the fuel level sensor is present at the fuel pump wiring harness.
