    What Does P0609 Mean?

Many systems within a vehicle must monitor vehicle speed, and they use this information to calculate values related to their own function. These systems may be controlled by the PCM, powertrain control module, or they may be controlled by their own specific control module. If any of these modules detects that the data from a vehicle speed sensor is incorrect or inconsistent, the system will register a malfunction, and will store the code P0609 in the PCM.

What are the common causes of P0609 ?
    • Faulty IMRC actuator relay (if equipped)
    • A large air leak at or near the number one oxygen sensor would also cause a lean mixture.
    • Rarely - faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM-programming required after replacement)

How do you troubleshoot P0609 ?

There are currently two main types of cylinder deactivation used today, depending on the type of engine. P0609 code for the pushrod design which uses solenoids to alter the oil pressure delivered to the lifters. In their collapsed state, the lifters are unable to elevate their companion pushrods under the valve rocker arms, resulting in valves that cannot be actuated and remain closed.
