P0660 Code - Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Control Circuit Open Bank 1

What Does P0660 Mean?

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) continuously monitor the Intake Manifold Tuning Valve (IMTV) system during Key ON engine OFF or key ON engine running self-test. The PCM sets the OBDII code when the signal on is more or less than the expected calibrated range.

What are the common causes of P0660 ?

Three are hardly ever problems with the vehicle’s PCM itself, but the P0660 is the exception that proves the rule. The problem could be a poor electrical connection or a defective driver in the PCM. Other causes could be:

• Damaged wiring or connectors in the CAN bus harness
• Broken ground wire
• Loose control module
• Faulty fuel injector control module The CAN bus itself could also be defective.

How do you troubleshoot P0660 ?

Now, clear the codes and test-drive the vehicle to see if the code is reset. Look for missing ground strap or a rusty ground where the fuel tank is grounded to the frame. Check for damage to the wiring harness connector. If the engine displays a miss and there wasn't a code, determine which cylinder is misfiring. If the exhaust manifold is visible, spay or pour a small amount of water on each cylinder exhaust port. Water will evaporate immediately on good cylinders and slowly on the missing cylinder. If this can't be accomplished pull the plugs and check the condition.
