    What does P0691 Mean?

The poor running symptoms are consistent with a MAP sensor malfunction. In addition, in some cases, a bad MAP sensor will not throw a code. Again, the ELD code likely represents a separate wiring issue. When you see P0691 engine fault code on your engine code reader this description will help you.

What are the common causes of P0691 ?

Common causes include a bad cooling fan motor or a faulty cooling fan relay. Less common causes include corroded or loose electrical connectors, a faulty engine coolant temperature sensor, and open or shorted electrical wiring (often resulting in a blown fuse).

How do you troubleshoot P0691 ?

With the valve disconnected, the red voltmeter lead should be attached to the IMRC valve power wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to ground. It should be pretty close to battery voltage (12 volts). If not, then this is the circuit that has the problem. If the engine displays a miss and there wasn't a code, determine which cylinder is misfiring. If the exhaust manifold is visible, spay or pour a small amount of water on each cylinder exhaust port. Water will evaporate immediately on good cylinders and slowly on the missing cylinder. If this can't be accomplished pull the plugs and check the condition.
