What are the common causes of P0697 ?

Several problems may cause a P0697 code including:
    • Damaged, open, or shorted wiring and connectors between control modules (including the ECM)
    • Damaged, open, or shorted wiring and connectors between engine sensors
    • Damaged or defective ECM

How do you troubleshoot P0697 ?

Look for missing ground strap or a rusty ground where the fuel tank is grounded to the frame. Check for damage to the wiring harness connector. Pack the connector cavity with dielectric silicone compound (same stuff they use for light bulb sockets and spark plug wires) and reassemble.
