    What does P0723 Mean?

OBD-II Code P0723 is defined as a Output Speed Sensor Circuit Intermittent

The Output Speed Sensor tells the Transmission Control Module (TCM) how fast the output shaft of the transmission is spinning so it can verify the correct gear is engaged. When the TCM receives an inaccurate or irrational signal from this sensor, it is an indication that there is an issue inside the transmission. The engine control module (PCM) or TCM will set code P0723.

What are the common causes of P0723 ?
    • Rarely - faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM-programming required after replacement)
    • Rough running engine due to misfiring plugs. Many engines have misfire codes to indicate the cylinder effected, such as P0307 for number 7.
    • A large air leak at or near the number one oxygen sensor would also cause a lean mixture.

How do you troubleshoot P0723 ?

The valves of each cylinder are kept closed using a pair of arms that replace the conventional engine's roller-type rocker arm. P0723 code one of these arms follows the cam profile while the second arm connects to the valves. During normal engine operation the two arms are joined by a locking pin.
