P0739 Code - TCM Engine Speed Output Circuit High

What does P0739 Mean?

The PCM has received an engine speed signal from the engine (turbine) speed output sensor that is either irrational, erratic, or in some way incorrect. Without a usable input speed signal the transmission cannot provide a proper shift strategy.

What are the common causes of P0739 ?

• Fuel with a large percentage of sulfur will clog the DPF quickly
• The Mass Airflow sensor will also cause this problem. Mass Airflow circuit malfunction.
• A large vacuum leak would cause a massive amount of un-metered air to enter the intake manifold resulting in an overly lean mixture.

How do you troubleshoot P0739 ?

The valves of each cylinder are kept closed using a pair of arms that replace the conventional engine's roller-type rocker arm. P0739 code one of these arms follows the cam profile while the second arm connects to the valves. During normal engine operation the two arms are joined by a locking pin.
