    What does P0764 Mean?

The PCM has detected an abnormality in shift solenoid C. The computer controlled automatic transmission uses shift solenoids to manage the transfer of fluid between hydraulic circuits and actuate a change in transmission gear ratio. Varying gear ratios are needed to increase and decrease vehicle speed, maximize engine performance, and optimize fuel efficiency.

What are the common causes of P0764 ?
    • Dirty air cleaner element Damaged DPF
    • A plugged converter will cause of host of driveability problems as well as set this code. A severely plugged converter will result in the inability to increase rpm when under load. Look for a code such as P0421 -- catalytic converter efficiency below threshold if the converter indicating a faulty converter.
    • Rarely - faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM-programming required after replacement)

How do you troubleshoot P0764 ?

Deactivation of cylinders is achieved by releasing a synchroniser pin that normally interlocks the cam follower and rocker arms. P0764 code resolves the synchroniser pin is released using hydraulic pressure which is controlled by a dedicated solenoid.
