    What does P0793 Mean?

The oxygen (02) sensors on your car measure the oxygen in the exhaust to determine how rich or lean the ratio of fuel and air are in the cylinders. Optimizing this mixture means better fuel economy and fewer exhaust emissions. When you see P0793 engine fault code on your engine code reader this description will help you.

What are the common causes of P0793 ?

The most common causes of this code being stored are due to a defective intermediate shaft speed sensor, output speed sensor, or input speed sensor. Other common causes include shorted, open, corroded, or damaged wiring circuits or connectors, faulty shift solenoid/s, defective engine drivability sensors (especially the engine temperature sensor), dirty or contaminated transmission fluid that restricts flow, defective valve body, a faulty PCM. PCM failure is rare.

How do you troubleshoot P0793 ?

To repair a P0793 trouble code requires a mechanic to take the following action:
    • Replace any corroded, faulty, or otherwise damaged components, wiring, or connectors.
    • Replace or repair any system circuits, connectors, or components related to the Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor.
    • Replace the PCM if it is at fault.
