    What does P0796 Mean?

    There are currently two main types of cylinder deactivation used today, depending on the type of engine. P0796 code for the pushrod design which uses solenoids to alter the oil pressure delivered to the lifters. In their collapsed state, the lifters are unable to elevate their companion pushrods under the valve rocker arms, resulting in valves that cannot be actuated and remain closed.

    What are the common causes of P0796 ?

    Common causes include a faulty electronic pressure control solenoid, hydraulic blockages inside the internal transmission fluid passages, mechanical internal transmission failures, low transmission fluid, dirty or contaminated transmission fluid, a faulty PCM or transmission control module.

    How do you troubleshoot P0796 ?

    Look for damage to the tank indicating impact that may have damaged the fuel pump or sender. Look at the plug wires to make sure they are not burnt or laying on the exhaust. Once located, visually inspect the connectors and wiring. Look for rubbing, scraping, bare wires, worn spots or melted plastic connectors.
