    What does P0799 Mean?

The Pressure Control (PC) Solenoid Valve an electronic pressure regulator that controls transmission line pressure based on current flow through its coil windings. As current flow is increased, the magnetic field produced by the coil moves the solenoid’s plunger further away from the exhaust port. Opening the exhaust port decreases the output fluid pressure regulated by the PC solenoid valve, which ultimately decreases line pressure. The line pressure solenoid valve regulates the oil pump discharge pressure to suit the driving condition in response to a signal sent from the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

What are the common causes of P0799 ?

There are a few different things that can cause the P0799 trouble code:
    • Defective pressure control solenoid
    • Insufficient transmission fluid levels
    • Dirty transmission fluid
    • Damaged or faulty electrical components in the system, such as wires and connectors
    • Hydraulic blockages within the fluid passages in the internal transmission
    • Defective high pressure pump
    • Mechanical failures in the internal transmission
    • In rare cases, a defective PCM or transmission control module

How do you troubleshoot P0799 ?

Use the DVOM to test resistance and continuity on all system circuits if actuator and sensor resistance levels are in compliance with manufacturer's specifications. With the valve disconnected, the red voltmeter lead should be attached to the IMRC valve power wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to ground. If the engine displays a miss and there wasn't a code, determine which cylinder is misfiring. If the exhaust manifold is visible, spay or pour a small amount of water on each cylinder exhaust port. Water will evaporate immediately on good cylinders and slowly on the missing cylinder. If this can't be accomplished pull the plugs and check the condition.
