    What does P0858 Mean?

When the PCM, or a related module, doesn't receive input from the traction control module, a P0858 trouble code is stored and the check engine light illuminates. In some models, the traction control light might also illuminate and the transmission will be placed in Limp-in mode.

What are the common causes of P0858 ?

By far the most common cause of this code is from a defective traction control ON/OFF switch. Liquids spilled into the traction control switch are a very common cause of this type of failure. Other causes may include open, shorted, corroded, or otherwise damaged wiring and/or electrical connectors. Technicians also report the presence of excessive corrosion in the sensor connector as the cause of this code being stored.

How do you troubleshoot P0858 ?

Replace the oxygen sensor that is downstream from the catalytic converter on the side of the engine that does not contain cylinder #1. Also, if a oxygen sensor code stating "heater circuit malfunction" the sensor has most probably failed. With the valve disconnected, the red voltmeter lead should be attached to the IMRC valve power wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to ground. Now, clear the codes and test-drive the vehicle to see if the code is reset.
