    What does P0929 Mean?

OBD-II Code Transmission may not shift properly is defined as a Gear Shift Lock Solenoid/Actuator Control Circuit "A"

The Transmission is responsible for converting the power produced by the engine to movement of the vehicle. The transmission has its own control module (TCM). The TCM uses solenoids to control the fluid pressure that activates the different gears inside the transmission. If the TCM sees an implausible signal from the shift solenoid, code P0929 will be set.

What are the common causes of P0929 ?

Several problems may cause a P0929 code including:
    • Low transmission fluid
    • Dirty transmission fluid
    • Low battery voltage
    • Damaged or corroded electrical wiring to or from the gear shift lock solenoid
    • Damaged or defective gear shift lock solenoid
    • Damaged or defective brake light switch
    • Damaged or defective ECM (rare)

How do you troubleshoot P0929 ?

If the scan tool has that capability, and the scan tool can operate the IMRC valves, then the problem is either resolved and a simple code clearing is all that's left or a new PCM would be called for. Look for missing ground strap or a rusty ground where the fuel tank is grounded to the frame. Check for damage to the wiring harness connector.
