    What does P0966 Mean?

OBD-II Code P0966 is defined as a Pressure Control Solenoid "B" Control Circuit Low

The Transmission Fluid Pressure Solenoid allows the engine's control module (PCM) or Transmission Control Module (TCM) to use hydraulic fluid to engage the clutches in the transmission to allow for smoother shifting while driving. If the PCM or TCM detects an issue with the electrical circuit to or from this solenoid, the PCM or TCM will set code P0966.

What are the common causes of P0966 ?
    • An air leak forward of the DPF will change the sensor readings resulting in the code
    • Rusty exhaust systems, cracked exhaust manifolds or damaged or missing gaskets or donuts will cause air leaks.
    • Faulty IMRC actuator relay (if equipped)

How do you troubleshoot P0966 ?

Possible solutions for this error include:
    • Replacing pressure control solenoid valve B
    • Repairing or replacing damaged wiring or harness
    • Tightening loose connections between the solenoid valve and the PCM
    • Flushing the transmission line and replacing the fluid
    • Updating the PCM software
    • Replacing the PCM (rare)
