    What does P0923 Mean?

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) monitors the Gear Shift Forward Actuator. The TCM sets the OBDII code when the Gear Shift Forward Actuator is not to factory specifications.

What are the common causes of P0923 ?

There are a few different problems that can result in the P0923 trouble code being detected:
    • Malfunctioning gear shift forward actuator
    • Damaged or defective forward gear guide rail
    • Damaged or defective shift shaft
    • Mechanical problem in the internal transmission
    • In very rare cases, a malfunctioning PCM, ECM, or transmission control module
    • Faulty electrical components in the transmission system, such as shorted wires or open connectors

How do you troubleshoot P0923 ?

Check to make sure they are not burnt or corroded. If in doubt, get some Electrical Contact cleaner at any parts store if cleaning of the terminals is needed. With the valve disconnected, the red voltmeter lead should be attached to the IMRC valve power wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to ground. Replace the oxygen sensor that is downstream from the catalytic converter on the side of the engine that does not contain cylinder #1. Also, if a oxygen sensor code stating "heater circuit malfunction" the sensor has most probably failed.
