    What does P0975 Mean?

The Engine Control Module (ECM) commands gear shifts by turning the shift solenoid valves ON/OFF . When there is an open or short circuit in any shift solenoid valve circuit, the ECM detects the problem and illuminates the engine light and stores the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC), and the ECM performs the fail-safe function and turns the other shift solenoids valves in good condition ON/OFF .

What are the common causes of P0975 ?
    • A large air leak at or near the number one oxygen sensor would also cause a lean mixture.
    • Faulty IMRC actuator relay (if equipped)
    • Rarely - faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM-programming required after replacement)

How do you troubleshoot P0975 ?

The original multi-displacement system turned off opposite pairs of cylinders, allowing the engine to have three different configurations and displacements. P0975 code had an elaborate diagnostics procedure, including showing engine trouble codes on the air conditionning display. However, the system was troublesome, misunderstood by customers, and a rash of unpredictable failures led to the technology being quickly retired.
